Blanchefleur
3rd December 2006, 458 g, 29 cm, 8 joints

"Blanchefleur" got his name from a white variety of cultivated rose. When a fellow student asked me to make a bear for her cousin´s wedding, I had the picture of a white rose in mind. So I felted a big white rose with a dark green felted stem containing wire for the bear to hold. The teddy itself should have a luxurious white mohair with golden fibres in it. His heels and toes and his snout have been felted, too. For these parts I used the same soft white wool as for the rose flower. His hands are needle sculpted, they have three fingers each. Of course, his wrists are jointed, so that he can hold the rose. His double neck joint enables him to perform many different looks. As I thought the red of roses would complement the white, I used dark red thread for stitching his claws and nose. Claws and nose are waxed. In order to enable him to stand properly, I filled steel pellets into his feet and belly. Due to this additional filling he feels nicely heavy, too.

"Blanchefleur" is a romantic bear who loves watching sunsets. He loves nice quiet evenings at home with his new family, too. Furthermore he is a protective bear who always wants to accompany his family.

"Blanchefleur" will live with Ines´s cousin and her husband in Cologne, Germany.

White roses symbolize passion, innocence, fidelity, and agreement, but they also point to abnegation.
