Little Emperor Dragonfly (Anax imperator)
23rd July 2008, 179 g, 23 cm (9.1 "), 8 joints

Since many of you wanted me to make another winged bear, here he is - my first dragonfly! Just like my former butterfly creations, "Little Emperor Dragonfly" is meant to represent a certain species, in latin Anax imperator. Because of the characteristic wing structure (especially the pterostigma), he can clearly be distinguished from other species. Furthermore I tried to pick the blue-green colour of the thorax of this species for his claws and nose. Additionally I tried to imitate the pattern on the dragonfly´s abdomen and embroidered "Little Emperor Dragonfly´s" back. Like all dragonflies, he has got quite short antennae. By the way, his actual wing span is 19 cm (7.5 "). His shiny black short pile mohair resembles the black parts of the insect´s body. Soft fake leather covers his paws and nose. He is filled with sheep´s wool and steel granules in his feet and belly provide him with nice extra weight. Because of his bent legs, he is able to keep a good position when flying. Unfortunately, this prevents him from standing alone. Well, who wants to stand, when he can fly and sit! The joints in his wrists and his double neck joint make him very movable. Moreover his face, feet and hands have been needle sculpted.

"Little Emperor Dragonfly" is a curious little fellow. He likes summer best. In summer he likes spending most of the time near a lake, where he can meet other drangonflies. But he is a little afraid of dogs since the day a dog chased him and wanted to bite him. However, if someone is there to protect him, he can get along with dogs.

Nicole´s beary family is growing - "Little Emperor Dragonfly" joined "Little Snowman" and now lives happily with Nicole in Grünbach, Austria.
